Axie Oh is a graduate of the University of California-San Diego where she studied Korean history and creative writing. She was the recipient of Tu Books’ 2015 New Visions Award, awarded to an unpublished author of color. She is currently pursuing an MFA at Lesley University. She lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. Most importantly, she loves K-pop.
Most recently I was a co-mentor with Janella Angeles in Pitch Wars, where we worked two-on-one with our mentee – brainstorming, revising and fangirling with her. My publishing experience comes from two internships at Writers House Literary Agency and Folio Literary Management, where I worked the slush pile, but also critiqued clients’ manuscripts. Lastly, I have a undergraduate degree in writing from UCSD, and am currently pursuing an MFA in creative writing from Lesley University – I have an interest in the craft of writing, and would love to share that with a mentee!
I hope to find a serious (in terms of writing), motivated mentee who has a natural voice. I’m always drawn to diverse stories, #ownvoices, beautiful writing & a unique and powerful imagination!
Fave genres: ALL YA speculative genres (Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Magical Realism, Horror, etc.) Fave tropes: Romance tropes (enemies to lovers, Romeo & Juliet), Re-tellings (fairy tale, classics).
Bonus: Love anything with a strong, lyrical presence; love culture, families, & friendships Also, am always down for a high-octane, high concept story (would your book make an awesome movie? Send to me!)
My mentoring style is focused on how to help my mentee put onto the pages the story of their heart. I will brainstorm ideas with my mentee, critique their pages as if she or he were my CP, and encourage them to write the best story they can! I will be very open with all the knowledge I’ve gained throughout the years about publishing. Ask me all the questions. I will have answers!
