Maura Milan is a short, Filipino girl from Chicago, IL. Now, she resides in Los Angeles, where she can be found in cafes all throughout Koreatown, drinking green tea lattes and writing and writing and writing. In her free time, Maura enjoys watching Korean soap operas and eating rice krispie treats. She kinda looks like this: (o_o)

Maura received a BA from USC’s School of Cinema-Television and has placed a number of short films in festivals all over the United States. Her most notable and favorite short film, “Crocodile,” is based on her days running around the Australian outback during her summer vacations visiting the Aussie side of her family.

To this day, Gilbert Blythe is her ultimate boy crush.

I started querying Sept 2016. Got my agent in Oct/Nov 2016. Started subbing my YA Sci-Fi March 2017, got the book deal end of May 2017

I majored in Film and Television and have written and developed many screenplays. Which means I’m really great at giving advice on plotting! I have a few CPs that I work with on all my writing, and I love reading their drafts and helping them work through any story problems they have. I’ve helped friends with their query letters and watched them go on and get their first agent. I think it’s truly important to find a community of writers who you can trust. Writers need to stick together!

It’s hard going through this process alone, and I think it’s important to find the right people to turn to for good advice and guidance. I’m looking for a fast-paced, edge of your seat story, injected with the right amount of humor. If you’re like a YA Joss Whedon (minus all of his terrible, recent controversy), then let’s high-five and partner up.

  • Fantasy
  • Sci-Fi
  • #ownvoices
  • Speculative Fiction

I like love triangles, but only if the story needs it and it’s done well. I also commend authors who choose to write stories without romance. If you feel like it doesn’t need a romance subplot, then it’s better to just leave it out. Also love enemies become friends/lovers trope

  • Edit Letter (Big Picture developmental feedback)
  • Skype or phone call

I’ll read your initial draft, and then provide an edit letter with all of my notes and suggestions. As you rewrite, I will be there as a sounding board if you need me. After that, I can answer whatever questions you have about querying and what comes next.

Someone who is open to suggestions and notes. You definitely don’t need to take all my notes, only those that will help you make your story the best it can be.

YA Your Name, or anything that’s like an anime (fantasy or sci/fi). Science Fiction that deals with the ethics of AI. But generally, I love fun, fast-paced commercial action adventures with female friendship at its center! Anti-heroes are a plus. And also contemporary isn’t really my genre, BUT I would be interested in reading a sports drama all about friendship/teamwork – rivals who become friends. I love Haikyu. If it’s like that, then I’d be down!

Puzzles, chosen ones.

Cowboy Bebop, Attack on Titan, Haikyu!, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, K-Dramas, K-pop (Block B, Exo, Red Velvet, Winner), Sarah J. Maas, N.K. Jemisin, V.E. Schwab, Saga, The Last of Us
