Jennifer Camiccia has lived in the wilds of Los Angeles, where she fell in love with all things Disney; Iran, where she developed a fear of camels and a fondness for pistachios; and Hawaii, where her imagination was cultivated by the rich storytelling of the islands. Paddling canoe, gymnastics, riding horses, attempting to play tennis and failing miserably, are all things she enjoyed growing up on the north shore of Kauai. She now lives in the San Francisco Bay area where she enjoys fog-kissed air and a city teeming with talented artists.
Her debut Middle-grade, The Memory Keeper, released October 15, 2019 and is available for purchase.
Long story short. I’ve been writing for years but didn’t try to get published until around four years ago. I entered contests and joined twitter, but it wasn’t until I was mentored in PitchWars that I finally learned how to revise and write a killer query letter. And while I didn’t get my agent from PitchWars, it taught me so much about the writing community, and it’s where I met my critique partners. I finally signed with an agent in 2017 and went on sub with a YA book that was deemed too sad after the election to get any traction. We shelved that book and I wrote a MG contemporary. I received an offer after only a couple of weeks on sub and it published in October of 2019. I have another lower MG coming out in 2021 and another on sub as we speak. I’m also revising a YA thriller that I kind of love but it’s taking forever to finish.
I was a mentor in TeenPit and a mentor in Round 7 of AMM. And I have wonderful critique partners who have taught me so much about editing.
I learned so much from being a mentee in Pitchwars, and I love giving back to the writing community that helped me.
Contemporary middle-grade with heart. The Thing About Jellyfish meets When You Reach Me.
I love mysteries and sci-fi.
