Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka met and fell in love in high school. Austin went on to graduate magna cum laude from Harvard, while Emily graduated magna cum laude from Princeton. Together, they are the authors of Always Never Yours, If I’m Being Honest, and Time of Our Lives. Now married, they live in Los Angeles, where they continue to take daily inspiration from their own love story.

We started querying in 2016 with the first book we wrote together. While in the query trenches, we wrote another book and started querying that one as well. Both ended up getting offers at the same time at the end of 2016, and we picked an agent who was more interested in representing the second book we wrote, which would go on to become our YA debut, ALWAYS NEVER YOURS. In 2020 we went on sub and sold our adult debut THE ROUGHEST DRAFT.

Austin is an English major and a former journalist in college and at the Hollywood Reporter. Together, we’ve mentored in Pitch Wars and AMM before, as well as CP’ed manuscripts and query letters for friends querying or on submission.

We love to give back to the writing community! Jumping into publishing is lonely and overwhelming, and it’s our hope that we can make the experience easier by sharing what we’ve learned in our four years in the business. Plus the friendships we’ve made with our mentees have been truly wonderful.

We’re looking for contemporary romance, either adult or YA. In adult, we love a high-concept romance, but we also love projects that tip into women’s fiction. In YA, we love retellings and anything with a nerdy edge to it. We also have a soft spot in our hearts for unlikeable female characters.

  • Romance
  • Contemporary
  • #ownvoices

We’re not the right mentor for dark contemporary. Give us banter, and make us laugh and swoon. Inside that, we love all tropes.

  • Edit Letter (Big Picture developmental feedback)
  • Line edit (dropping notes in a Word Document)

We’ll start with a larger edit letter and then we’ll work with you to come up with a revision plan. You can set your own deadlines or we’re happy to do it for you. We’re also happy to look at pages as you go to make sure you’re on track. Once the bigger pieces are nailed down, we’ll provide line edits which will be smaller, more surface-level notes. This will mirror working with an editor and is a great way to learn the ropes on your own schedule.

Someone who wants direction on how to improve their manuscript. There WILL be work, but we’ll help every step of the way.

Anything you might find on the Netflix romcom page.

Nothing sci-fi, thriller, or fantasy.
