Scott Reintgen grew up in North Carolina, and took full advantage of the fact that he lived on the same street as fourteen of his cousins. It could be a little crowded, but he threw a few elbows and carved out a space for himself as the family storyteller. He enjoyed the role so much that he decided to spend most of college and graduate school investing in the world of literature. This led to a career teaching English and Creative Writing in the great state of North Carolina, where he currently lives with his wife and family. To his great delight, the demand for stories and storytellers is alive and well. As such, he can often be found at local coffee shops laboring over stories that he hopes his family, and fans, will love.

I majored in English and minored in Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After that, I earned my master’s degree in teaching. I spent the last four years teaching English and Creative Writing to high school students, as mentioned in my bio. I’ve been a member of a dedicated critique/writing group for about four years now.

I’m really just trying to be helpful to someone as they enter the world of writing. My first two books went through the query process and didn’t find a home. Breaking through on my third book, finding an agent, and finding the right publisher really changed a lot for me. I’m always eager to help writers out who are looking to take the traditional route and find success. As mentioned above, I’m especially interested in helping #ownvoices authors. I already work with several of my former students, hoping to develop the writers our generation needs in the YA and speculative literary worlds.
I really love reading science fiction, fantasy, dystopian, etc. Really anything with speculative elements. My strengths are: action, pacing, high-concept writing. The last five books that I loved were: RED RISING, THE FIFTH SEASON, SIX OF CROWS, THE CITY AND THE CITY (Mieville), and STATION ELEVEN.
I’m very interested in reading works that are inclusive/diverse.
I’m very available and very flexible. I usually read through a piece and make comments in the margins as I go. I try to be thorough with my critiques and thorough with my praises of a work. I like to give A LOT of comments, and I trust the author to take what’s helpful and leave what’s not.
A strong writer who’s ready to put in the work to get even better.
